Travel log of our trip around USA. We became full time RVers on June 20, 2010 after sale of a home in mid-Michigan. We also sold most of our belongings by holding an auction. Our goal is to visit as much of the USA as possible and keep a record of our trip. We have converted most of our personal records to paperless. Currently former neighbors are forwarding mail.

Washington DC June 2011
We all enjoyed touring Washington D.C. Half the fun was getting there!! It took awhile to understand the "Metro" but we soon got the hang of it. We were able to purchase metro passes right at the park. We took a city bus from the RV park to the College Park metro station. The boys were really impressed with the metro rail system. Unfortunately, the first day we went to DC, I left my camera in the jeep, so we didn't get pictures of all the places we visited. After spending over an hour deciding where we were when we got off the metro rail, we finally purchased tickets for the "Tourmobile" which allowed us to get on and off at any stops. We tired quickly the first day, and found our way on the tourmobile to Union Station where we had a very late lunch. Our Tourmobile tickets were good for two days, so on the second day we had a better idea of places we wanted to see and organized our trip a little better. Justin and Josh were most excited to see the White House, and the capitol building. We didn't get to tour either building (plans not made early enough to get clearance for the White House) and not enough time to tour the capitol building the second day we visited. The Vietnam wall was very moving. Ted found names of soldiers on the wall that he knew in Vietnam. We talked to other veterans there and also thanked them for their service. Ted explained the statue of Vietnam soldiers to Josh and Justin, they had lots of questions about life in Vietnam. We had lunch the second day at Union Station also. And took the metro back to College Station, and a city metro bus back to the RV park. I would love to visit DC again and see more exhibits, it's just too much to take in on a two day visit.
