Padre Island and Texas State Aquarium, Corpus Christi TX

We spent a 5 days, early August 2011 in Corpus Christi, TX area. It was so hot in the Hill Country area, we were trying to find some cooler weather without leaving Texas. It was about 10 degrees cooler than, and there was always a breeze. However, the park where we stayed, Colonia del Rey, had extremely low water pressure. It was a clean, top Good Sam Park, friendly helpful staff, but they have to do something about the water pressure. We drove out to Padre Island twice. It was beautiful and fun to drive the jeep on the beach. Saw an interesting sand sculpture and stopped in the visitor center. We were able to use our national park "Senior Pass" to enter the park for free!! Best $10 investment we made in 2010. We also decided to visit the Texas State Aquarium while we were there. The aquarium was a disappointment. Some interesting exhibits, but for the $40 entrance fee plus $5 to park, we felt it was overpriced. We were able to walk through the exhibits in less then 20 minutes. When we left the park to return to Marble Falls, there was a problem with the transfer case on the jeep. Ted was able to get the transmission into neutral so it was towable. We called Cecil Atkisson Jeep dealer in Burnet, TX and were able to drop the jeep off on a Thursday afternoon. Luckily they had the parts to make the repair the same day and we picked up the jeep Friday morning before 9:00. All repairs were covered under warranty, thank goodness.
